Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection ICSI

ICSI stands for intracytoplasmic sperm injection - a process that addresses male infertility. This type of procedure is known as an Assisted Reproductive Technology Generally, the procedure is used during IVF (in vitro fertilization) treatments by injecting sperm into a mature egg for development. Following the fertilization procedure, the egg is placed into the mother's womb or fallopian tube for implantation.

ICSI is a popular treatment for men whose sperm count is too low or inadequate to ensure fertilization of eggs. The process utilizes specialized equipment and tools, but is an effective treatment for many couples dealing with infertility issues due to a variety of causes.

Inability of a couple to conceive and reproduce. It is defined as failure to conceive after one year of regular intercourse without contraception if the women is under 35 year of age or within 6 month if women is over 35.

Couples with primary Infertility has never been able to conceive while secondary infertility is defined as difficulty in conceiving after already having conceived (either carried the pregnancy to term or has a miscarriage).

Infertility affect both men and women and impact not only physical health but also mental well being of those affected by it.

About one third of infertility cases are caused by women’s problem, another one third problem are due to man. Rest of the cases are caused by a mixture of male and female problems or by unexplained problem.

There has been tremendous advancement in the field of infertility treatment, the choice of treatment depends on the cause that produce infertility which require the advice of specialist – there by deciding the most suitable method of conception.
